How to Deal With Overwhelm
Hello Beautiful 🦋. What helps you deal with OVERWHELM? That feeling of not being able to keep your head above water. Feeling like you want to run and escape. Feeling out of control! That was me a couple of times this week.
The compassionate lesson I learned this week was that compassionate practices are not one and done. They are rinse and repeat.
Compassionate Practices I Implemented
I started off the morning feeling overwhelmed and anxious. I went for a walk in the park. I found that helped to relieve the buildup of stress hormones. I used that walk in nature to
pray in gratitude for being able to walk, see, hear, and have access to such a beautiful park nearby.
I practiced mindfulness by naming what I could hear, see, and feel. I heard the birds chirping, saw the beautiful pond, the trees, beautiful blue sky, and felt the ground and bench under me.
I inhaled for 3 held my breath for 3 and then exhaled for 7. I felt a HUGE difference in my stress levels.
One and Done?
So I did those things and I thought once I did them that the feeling of overwhelm wouldn’t return or at least not return so soon. You ever feel that way? Those feelings did return and I was frustrated. Then I realized when I first practice acceptance and compassion for having that emotion to begin with, it makes it easier to continue practicing rather than getting detoured and beating myself up for struggling with overwhelm.
I am making a commitment to :
make a choice to practice compassion daily!
To practice acceptance, which helps tremendously with any uncomfortable emotion.
All Inclusive?
What comes to your mind when I say “all inclusive”? I invite you to see this video below where I talk more about “emotional inclusion” and what that means to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this article!
Please share with someone you love who struggles with overwhelm. Let me know what value you received, or if you have any questions or suggestions.
Remember to give yourself some compassion today! Til next time, keep growing and transforming in love. 🦋
