Consistency Over Intensity
It is so easy to focus on intensity before consistency. I am one of those that like to strike while the iron is hot. The thing with that is the iron is unpredictable when it wants to be hot or how long it can stay hot so it’s better for me to strike the iron repeatedly and get that slow consistent burn.
Challenges to being consistent.
We have all heard of the tortoise and the hare. We learned that slow and steady win the race. That is not what is promoted though. Everything is about instant results. I am seeing how part of the difficulty in going slow is impatience and discontent.
I want it yesterday and what is here today is not good enough. So and so is there already. Comparison really is the thief of joy and patience. Staying in my own lane and running at my own pace is another lesson from the tortoise and the hare.
How to be Consistent.
1. Keeping things simple helps with consistency.
The less complicated we make it to start the faster we can get started. Our brain thrives on simplicity.
2.Starting small.
Starting small helps make it easier to start because the cost of entry is low. Starting small helps you gain momentum before you know it things are moving at a great speed that you can keep up with.
3. Celebrate your small wins.
If all you focus on is how far you have to go it can zap you of the energy you need for this long-distance race. It’s easy to minimize the small things that get you to your big wins. Celebrating helps you see how far you’ve come and it keeps up your morale.
This month’s blogpost challenge from Mattie James is just the right amount of pressure to push me out of my comfort zone and yet still give me confidence in being able to reach the goal.
I’d love to hear any tips you have for being consistent. What small win can I celebrate with you?
