Fall 7 Times Get Up 8

Fall 7 Times Get Up 8

Make sure to get up one more time than you fall and you will get to the finish line. It isn’t a matter of IF you will fall, it’s WHEN.

Falling off one day happens to the best of us but when we make sure to get right back up then we can still keep going without losing our momentum.

Why Walking Became My New Habit for October

I started walking daily for the month of October because:

  • Fall is my favorite month of the year. I love seeing the rich warm colors of reds, oranges, yellows, and brown.

  • I wanted to take advantage of the area I live in that has amazing trees and parks nearby.

  • It afforded me quality family time with my son and husband. My son was not for it when we started. I had to bribe him with a lollipop but now he looks forward to it without the bribe.

  • Helps me cope with being overwhelmed and anxious.

  • My hips were so tight. I realized I was sitting too much and becoming very sedentary.

  • I have also packed on the quarantine15 so this walk was also going to help my health.

  • Made me feel in control of something during this pandemic.

My goal was not to get “snatched” by walking it was so that I can:

  • Increase immunity

  • Blood circulation

  • Help my tight hip flexors

  • Release stress hormones

  • Give me a change of scenery.

  • Balance my blood sugar.

Not that I did not want to lose weight but the unseen health benefits are more important to me.

It helped that I just got an apple watch that is like my trainer and cheerleader. I can’t tell you how gratifying closing my activity rings are. So I am three weeks in and I had some days this month where I didn’t walk and at first I felt disappointed with myself. But then I realized in order to keep momentum I had to allow for me being “human” and missing a day. What helped is not allowing myself more than one day.

Today is that example. Yesterday I missed my walk and I wanted to skip today too but I remembered my goal and went for my walk even though I didn’t last as long as I usually do. I still made the effort to go for my walk and I am so proud of myself. Not so much for the walk but for allowing myself not to be derailed because it was not a perfect 30 days straight.

WHAT CONSISTENCY MEANS TO ME

This helped me so much because the recovering perfectionist in me would love to avoid a fall and feel defeated when I miss a day but giving myself space to be “human” goes a long way. It helped me to stay my version of consistent. I used to think consistent meant “perfect” never missing a day. But consistency to me means MORE OFTEN THAN NOT. 80/20 If I am keeping up more than I am staying down that is a win.

Give yourself a clap 👏🏼 for making it through this week. If no one told you yet I am proud of you for doing the best you could this week with what you had.

Remember to bring love and compassion to any challenge that you face because love is the best motivator for lasting change.
